(part time 16 hrs and part time 30.5 hrs)

Location: Leeds

Tenure: Temporary Part Time Post

  • Post 1:  17.00 – 20.00 (3 hrs) two evenings per week Mon-Fri by arrangement combined with Saturdays 09.00 – 20.00 with one hour break 14.00 – 15.00 (10 hrs).  Contract runs from 1st Sept 2009 - 30 June 2010 (16 hrs per week).

    Post 2:  10.30 - 15.00 (4.5 hrs) three days per week, and 10.30 - 20.00 (8.5 hrs) on two days per week (Mon-Fri - exact days to be confirmed).  Contract runs from 1st Sept 2009 - 30 June 2010 (30.5 hrs per week)*.

    * The second post requires stronger written communication, organisational and administrative skills.

 

Reporting to: Library Manager

Job Summary: You will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of the School’s library and information services including basic IT support and ensuring the library remains a pleasant and conducive environment in which to study.

Job Content:

As a member of the Library & Information Service team you will be expected to:

  • assist with the provision of loan services and other Issue Desk services
  • answer routine enquiries and refer where appropriate
  • provide basic IT support and refer where appropriate
  • be proactive in maintaining the library environment and ensuring that it is conducive to studying
  • monitor and report on student usage and demand and ensure that there is appropriate communication with other members of the LIS team
  • undertake clerical and administrative duties as may be consistent with the post.   Post 2 includes administrative tasks in support of other departments and therefore requires strong skills in this area

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Previous experience

  • Previous experience of library work and/or IT support is desirable.
  • Previous experience of legal information is not necessary but desirable

* Post 2 Previous experience demonstrating good written communication, organisational and administrative skills is highly desirable for this post. 

Education

  • You should have a good general education to at least A-level standard.

 

Personal skills

Essential

  • Excellent communications skills

  • An ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • An ability to work on own initiative within guidelines established
  • An ability to work under pressure
  • Confidence in using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office products, email and the internet
  • Capable of undertaking work involving the movement of books and book trolleys.

 

Desirable

  • Experience in HTML or web-design applications such as Dreamweaver or Sharepoint.
  • Experience in using Unicorn or other automated library management systems

 

All applicants should be energetic and self-motivated, with good IT and client care skills and the ability to communicate well as part of a team. 

Responsibilities will include staffing and opening/closing the library issue desk, dealing with basic enquiries and providing some IT support, shelving, selling stationery and a variety of clerical and administrative duties as may be consistent with the post.  This post offers an excellent opportunity to gain academic or law library experience.
