Library Manager and Business Information Specialist

Location: Fitzwilliam House-20-22 St Mary’s Axe, London.

Reporting to: Director of Library & Information Services

Hours of employment: 37.5 hours per week. Normal hours are Monday – Friday 09.30-18.00 but may be varied.

Job Purpose: To be responsible for managing the library of BPP College’s Fitzwilliam House site and ensuring the service meets the needs of its users, and to provide specific support to staff and students of the Business School.

The post-holder is expected to:

  • be responsible for the day-to-day management of the library & information service,
  • recruit, supervise, appraise and train staff,
  • work with the Acquisitions Librarian to coordinate and develop resources including collection development and management, online information services and other initiatives,
  • work with the Director of Library & Information Services to ensure the Business School’s library services are appropriately funded, and to manage the budget effectively,
  • help and advise members of the Business School in making effective use of printed and electronic information sources and assist with enquiries,
  • provide a competitive intelligence function for the Business School,
  • design and deliver training and induction programmes in business research and to support student use of specific online resources,
  • liaise with members of teaching and support staff,
  • work alongside the College’s Library & Information Service management team to develop strategic plans and ensure a quality service is offered to all users,
  • work closely with the site management team to ensure the library service matches its users’ needs,
  • develop and maintain performance monitoring systems and quality assurance procedures,
  • maintain an awareness of current developments in the relevant information and technology areas,
  • and perform from time to time such other duties as may be consistent with the post.

Experience:

  • Experience within an academic or business library service.
  • A good knowledge of hardcopy and electronic business information resources.
  • Experience in user education and training.
  • Experience in researching companies, markets and industries.
  • Experience of staff supervision.
  • Experience in information literacy skills training.

  • A professional qualification in library/information science, or equivalent experience.
