Jones Day inspire the next generation of lawyers during National Pro Bono Week

November 06, 2008

BPP Law students will continue their top-level training by attending a seminar from international law firm, Jones Day, as part of National Pro Bono Week, a campaign to celebrate the extensive range and impact of pro bono services offered by lawyers, held from November 10th – 17th.

On November 10th, Jones Day partner and pro bono coordinator, Rosalind Connor, will be leading a seminar discussing her experience and demonstrating the results and value of pro bono work to the community.

Jones Day recently announced it would send all trainees exclusively to BPP to study the Legal Practice Course (LPC), building on the shared commitment both companies have to pro bono work. Jones Day has a long tradition of community involvement in all of 30 global locations, with at least one partner heading up pro bono services.

Similarly, BPP Law School runs Pro Bono Centres in London, Leeds and Manchester sites offering free legal advice to the community including services such as, Legal Advice Clinic, Environmental Law Group and Streetlaw.

Kara Irwin, Director of BPP’s Pro Bono Centre, said, “Pro bono programmes often work at society’s margins, dealing with some of the law’s most topical issues and helping those who cannot afford but often desperately need legal services. Being involved with pro bono programmes is a way for law students to bring theory to life, and start a career of giving back to the community.”

Rosalind Connor, Jones Day, continued, “As a firm we have benefited enormously from global economic growth in recent years, but we also recognise that the advancement of the rule of law has an important role to play if that process is to be a force for human as well as financial development. This seminar will explain to students how international law firms can tailor their pro bono initiatives so as to give something back to all of their chosen communities.”
