A team of 40 staff and students from BPP Law School, Oxford Road, Manchester took part in the first Manchester Legal Walk last night [Thursday 25 September]. The 10K charity walk around Manchester started at Civil Justice Centre and took in local landmarks including the Royal Exchange, Chinatown and Bridgewater Hall.

Money raised from the inaugural Manchester Legal Walk will go to LawWorks, the Personal Support Unit and legal centres in the North West. These charities provide legal advice, services and support for people who cannot afford legal assistance but who are quite often in desperate need of legal advice. Many of these centres see problems related to debt, housing, employment and family situations.

BPP Law School, Manchester has raised £490 so far and sponsorship continues to come in. Joanne Bell, Senior Lecturer and Pro Bono Coordinator at BPP Law School, Manchester said: “We are really pleased that such a large team from BPP took part in the walk and want to thank everyone who has supported us. All of the money raised will go directly to legal charities that help people in Manchester and the surrounding area. Through our own Pro Bono work we know how important these legal services are.”

The Manchester Legal Walk was led by Senior President of Tribunals, Lord Justice Carnwath and His Honour, Judge Richard Holman, Manchester’s designated Civil Judge. More than 470 walkers took part and so far more than £20,000 has been raised for legal charities in the North West.
